Carbon steel surfaces can be protected with paint or oxidation-resistant metal plating, but as we all know, this protection is just a thin film. If the protective layer is damaged, the underlying steel will begin to rust. 

The corrosion resistance of stainless steel high pressure tubing depends on the chromium content.

When the chromium content is 10.5%, the atmospheric corrosion resistance of the steel is significantly improved, but when the chromium content is higher, the corrosion resistance is not obvious.
